Long-term Food Preps

Long-term Food Preps - If You Don’t Can or Dehydrate

For those of us who do not know how to can or use a dehydrator for long-term food storage, there is always food that is already prepared for long-term storage that you can purchase. Some examples are dried eggs, dried cheese, dried fruits, and freeze-dried meals from companies such as Augason Farms and Mountain House that are already packaged for long-term storage, making it very convenient. Some of the foods are good for ten years or more if properly stored!

Before ordering multiple quantities, it’s a good idea to try a few. Then, if you like any, go ahead and stock up on the ones you tried and like according to your needs. Can you imagine buying multiples of certain items, not having tried them ahead of time, and then not liking them when it came time, say five years down the line, for breaking them out? So always do some test buys! There are so many companies now that offer long-term food preps.

For those of us who create long term food, ie: canning, dehydrating, if we create a barcode using a self -created UPC barcode for our inventory purposes only, does that upc code stay only in our data base, or does it create a mass data base for all users of your app? For instance, say I have some dried jerky, and I create a UPC code EAN-13 for that specific batch, and someone scans that same EAN-13 code in Europe where it is a standard barcode, which description will your app use?

Hello CC - If you create a new barcode, it will only stay local to your app, no one else would see it. It will get added to your "Archive Item" list which is like your own personal UPC code database so that the next time you scan that same barcode it will pull data from your personal "Archive Item" list instead trying the online UPC database so you won't have to type the information again. So, no it would not be added to the online database that all users of the app use, it would only be available in your own personal database which only you can access. Thank you for your question! 🙂
